Safer's hash matching technology is available via an API, givng digital platforms an additional deployment option for proactive detection of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Requiring minimal engineering resources to set up, this Thorn-hosted solution offers hashing and matching, content review and reporting, empowering you to find known CSAM, confirm via review and control of reporting to entities, like NCMEC.

Known CSAM Detection via API

Safer Match includes cryptographic hashing and our proprietary perceptual hashing technology along with access to hash lists of known CSAM from trusted sources for you to match against. Through the API implementation and availability in AWS Marketplace, the Thorn-hosted version allows content-hosting platforms to quickly take the first step in protecting their users from exposure to child sexual abuse content while protecting their platform from the risks of hosting CSAM.

Since launching in 2019, Safer has provided proactive CSAM detection tools built by experts in child safety technology. Thorn is excited to offer CSAM scanning via a simple-to-implement API. It makes proactive CSAM detection possible for more platforms.

“Adding an API solution on top of our existing on-prem offering gives content-hosting platforms more options for deploying our tools for proactive CSAM detection,” said John Starr, Thorn’s Vice President of Operations and Strategic Impact. “Thorn is dedicated to equipping content-hosting platforms with the tools and resources they need to help protect their platforms and their users.”

More Deployment Options

Safer Enterprise, our flagship solution, includes state-of-the-art CSAM detection features such as a CSAM classifier and cross-platform hash sharing in a self-hosted deployment. While providing more features for scalable, comprehensive CSAM detection, review and reporting, Safer Enterprise’s implementation does require dedicated engineering resources.

If engineering resources are limited or a self-hosted deployment isn’t a good fit, any platform with an upload button can deploy Safer Match's Thorn-hosted version to start detecting known CSAM.

Industry-Leading Tools

Safer was created by Thorn, whose mission is to build technology to defend children from sexual abuse. Thorn is leading the way in child safety technology by taking a large-scale, multi-pronged approach. This approach includes helping law enforcement find victims faster, empowering parents and youth to prevent abuse, connecting and moving the child safety ecosystem with original research and equipping content-hosting platforms with the tools, insights and connections needed to end the spread of CSAM.
